At Global Green’s pre-Oscar party and concert, “Rock the Earth,” stars Orlando Bloom, Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz, Kate Bosworth, Tim Robbins, Julie Delpy, Dennis Hopper, Jillian Barberie and many others gathered to enjoy special stripped-down musical performances by Incubus, Perry Ferrell and others while sharing information about clean energy solutions – such as utilizing fuel efficient vehicles on Oscar night and beyond. As celebrities arrived at Hollywood’s Day After Club for “Rock the Earth,” they strolled the symbolically green carpet and signed a letter to President George W. Bush, calling for him to support a “smart climate agenda.” Once inside, the high profile attendees visited a green building lounge filled with demonstrations, displays and literature regarding smart environmental energy choices and ways to cut back on the emissions responsible for global warming. They then nestled in for a set of passionate musical performances by globally concerned acts such as Incubus, Perry Ferrell, Dishwalla, Lou Barlow, Lili Haydn and a surprise musical performance by Tim Robbins as “Bob Roberts” that brought down the house. Many of Hollywood’s top names have agreed to work with Global Green USA by going to the Oscars in hybrid cars -- including Leonardo DiCaprio, Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron, Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz and Morgan Freeman, among others. “By foregoing gas-guzzling limos,” said Matt Petersen, president of Global Green USA, “Oscar attendees show their support for fuel efficient cars to decrease our dependence on fossil fuels, reduce air pollution, and stem climate change.” Salma Hayek, who is a presenter at this year's Oscars, said, "With global warming threatening us all, driving a fuel efficient car like a hybrid is something that everybody can do to protect our planet. I am proud to do my part -- I personally own and drive a hybrid car. And I love it!” Orlando Bloom, also an Oscar presenter at this year's Academy Awards added, “People can choose to change the way they drive to help reduce our impact on the environment.” Global Green USA, the U.S. affiliate of Green Cross International led by Mikhail S. Gorbachev, works in cooperation with individuals, industry, and governments to create a global value shift toward a sustainable and secure future.
