MOVIE star Orlando Bloom lapped up the limelight as he and girlfriend, Sydney model Miranda Kerr, were the star attractions of one of the biggest days of the racing calendar. Kerr and her Hollywood sweetheart Bloom made their first public appearance at Royal Randwick Doncaster Day yesterday. The couple were surrounded by photographers, David Jones staff and bodyguards as Kerr stepped out as the face of the retailer at their exclusive black and white-themed marquee. Arriving shortly before 1pm, the couple posed briefly for photographers, with Bloom stopping to greet Lord Of The Rings producer Barrie Osborne: "Hey, mate, how are you?" Wearing a long-sleeved black Collette Dinnigan dress, Prada clutch and Yves Saint Laurent stilettos, Kerr said the pair had enjoyed a meal with her parents at Catalina in Rose Bay the day before. "It was fun ... [but] it wasn't a big deal lunch," Kerr said. She refused to be drawn further on the headline-making relationship. "This is about David Jones," she said, coolly. "Let's just keep it about David Jones, shall we?" Englishman Bloom, 31, looked every inch the movie star in a slim fitting charcoal suit, skinny black tie and tortoise-shell Ray-Ban Wayfarers. On his first day at the races Bloom received three winning tips from champion trainer Gai Waterhouse. After he put $200 on Chairman's Handicap winner No Wine No Song - which paid $4.40 at the TAB - Kerr kissed his ticket. "Nice to see you," he said when asked how he was enjoying Sydney. "It's very fun." Former face of DJs Megan Gale wore a black Alex Perry dress and was joined by her boyfriend, radio personality Andy Lee. Commentators have cruelly likened the experienced model to a mare being put out to pasture with the hiring of 24-year-old Kerr, but Gale, 31, denied there was any rivalry between clothes-horses. "Oh, God, no," she said. "Trust me, there's enough work to go around. I have not seen her for a few years. It's just really great to spend a day together." Lee looked forward to keeping company with Bloom. "All the handbags would hopefully be in the cloakroom, and can have a drink and bet together," he said. With temperatures hitting more than 23 degrees, the style set were sweating in their black and white get-ups. Fascinators were clearly out of favour, with sculptural headware and veiled felt-based hats the look. But it was a different story for men with Underbelly's Les Hill sporting the latest look for colts - a "man-inator", an all-feathered concoction, on his suit lapel. Its creator, milliner Donny Galella, tipped it to be a major trend. Hill, sipping champagne in the Emirates marquee, denied his TV gangster character Jason Moran would not be caught dead wearing one. "I beg to differ," Hill said. Galella said Sydney women were bringing glamour back to the racetracks. "In the past few years, we've literally seen half a dead bird on women's heads, so we're moving away from that to sculptural headpieces and more bows," he said.

After all the trauma of the last few months its so wonderful to see Orlando out and about and REALLY enjoying himself. The smile is genuine, its not forced or strained like we've seen during photocalls of recent months events. Its just wonderful.

Stepping out together at one of the biggest events in Australia's horse racing calendar, Orlando Bloom and his love Miranda Kerr were the picture of happiness. There was certainly plenty for the Pirates Of The Caribbean star to smile about, too. The day before, he had been introduced to the other man in the model's life - her father, John. The actor had already met Miranda's mum, Therese. Orlando joined the Victoria's Secret star and her parents for lunch at Sydney's Catalina restaurant. "It was fun," said Miranda, who looked stunning in a long-sleeved Collette Dinnigan dress accessorised by a Prada clutch and Yves Saint Laurent stilettos. The ensemble was topped off with an elaborate titfer. After months of hiding their relationship – the gorgeous couple were first romantically together a year ago – the 31-year-old actor and his girlfriend seemed delighted to be showing their romance to the world. The loved-up couple were not the only stars who attended Randwick Racecourse's annual Doncaster Day bash on Saturday. Also spotted at the Sydney track were Miranda's fellow countryman, X-Men actor Hugh Jackman and his actress wife, Deborra-Lee Furness.

A newly svelte Megan Gale arrived at the David Jones marquee with her boyfriend Andy Lee - and was beseiged by the scrum of photographers awaiting visiting celebs Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom. Kerr and Bloom rolled up a discreet 20 minutes later, causing a mini stampede. "This is one of my first times at the races," the gorgeous Ms Kerr said. On arrival, the dashing Bloom, dressed in Hugo Boss, was greeted by Peter Morissey, who no doubt will be sending him some of his designer threads shortly. Like Hollywood royalty, the couple threw themselves into the racing atmosphere, Bloom clearly having the time of his life betting up a storm.

Doncaster Day at Royal Randwick was the hottest ticket in town yesterday because of it's star pulling power. With Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom making their first official pulic appearance together at the David Jones marquee, the media scrum almost outnumbered the guests. But that didn't deter the glamourous duo from enjoying the first sunny day Sydney had seen in weeks. They were accompanied by Kerr's parents, John and Therese. The Kerrs revealed it was the first city race meeting they had attended. And any suggestion this past week that Bloom was being ut through his paces by his possible future father-in-law was laughed off yesterday as John Kerr declared him a top bloke who shared his passion for motorbikes. "We both like motorbikes and we'll be riding them together next week," Mr Kerr laughed. <snip> The David Jones darlings posed together while their boyfriends patiently waited and placed bets on the horses. It paid off, because Bloom placed a $200 bet on No Wine No Song at 5/1. The tip was given to him by fashion designer Peter Morissey. As No Wine No Song galloped acrossed the finish line first, Bloom and Kerr high-fived and kissed, celebrating their luck. Although with both enjoying such blossoming careers , they hardly need the winning pennies.

Orlando Bloom's love life isn't a secret anymore. The Pirates of the Caribbean hottie and his Victoria's Secret model girlfriend Miranda Kerr, made the scene in Sydney yesterday for the AJC Australian Derby on Emirates Doncaster Day - Australia's equivalent of the Kentucky Derby. The event was sponsored by Aussie department store David Jones, which earlier this week named Miranda as its new spokesperson. Miranda and Orlando were dressed to the nines in their finest racing attire, which reflected the black and white theme of the event. Orlando and the leggy model are getting pretty serious. Orlando has even met the parents - at a lunch on Friday. When asked about the lunch date by photographers, Miranda simply said, 'It was fun...[but] it wasn’t a big deal lunch.' Orlando's luck keeps getting better - not only did he land a model (and apparently tight-lipped) girlfriend, he also won some cash on the ponies yesterday!
