Title: DA Not to Charge Orlando

libra - October 26, 2007 08:23 PM (GMT)
I hope you guys don't mind if I post this, but just had to. An alert just came in that said the DA is not going to charge Orlando. WOO HOO!

Not that I thought that they would, and this will show the paparazzi for the lowlifes that they are.

Sorry for that too, but this reminds me of what happened to Princess Diana, and God forbid, they could have killed or seriously hurt Orlando.

Now that this is behind him, I am hoping that he will pack his clothes and go back to England, where they respect him, and leave him alone.

I am thrilled, and to Jesse, please don't be too mad at me for this, but I am just tickled pink that this is over, and am not ashamed to say I've been worried to bits about him.

Nenya - October 26, 2007 08:25 PM (GMT)
Thank you for the great news!

Ginger - October 26, 2007 08:29 PM (GMT)
This is absoultly wonderful news!!! Oh Orlando I know this is a big burden off your shoulders. I"M SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :friends: :towel:

Kyle - October 26, 2007 08:31 PM (GMT)
I really hate to be the cynic - I would *love* for this to be true, I really would, but can this alert be confirmed as true? What's the source?

Sorry but I'd hate to get everybodys hopes up for it to turn out to be a cruel joke or simply a mistake (not on your behalf at all Libra, but wherever you heard it from).

I'm not one bit annoyed Libra, I was just coming to start this topic myself. I've had the alerts as well and they are very true.

I just want to say this...

Orlando, we knew you were innocent of the preposterous charges that were made against you. We all love you and have supported you all the way. You are and always will be a shining example to everyone who knows you.

Pack your bags and come home to England.

(And now, if you'll excuse me I'm going to have a bloody good cry.)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Los Angeles officials on Friday cleared Orlando Bloom of hit-and-run and drunken driving charges stemming from a car crash during which the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star was chased by paparazzi.

"There was insufficient evidence he was trying to get away," said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Country District Attorney.

An official evaluation of the incident also states the actor was not driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Bloom, 29, was driving in west Los Angeles in the early morning hours on October 12 when he swerved and hit a car.

The evaluation sheet shows Bloom was being chased by paparazzi in four cars, two of which tried to cut him off. It said that after the wreck, Bloom walked about 60 feet (20 meters) to avoid photographers then returned.

Bloom was dazed according to his police statement, but he later tested clear of alcohol and drugs.

The actor has been among Hollywood's top young stars in recent years winning awards and working in the smash hit movies like the "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Lord of the Rings" franchises.

From E! News...

QUOTE
The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office announced Friday that the Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings star would not face any charges stemming from a smashup earlier this month that left one of his passengers with a fractured neck.

D.A. spokeswoman Jane Robison tells E! News that, due to "insufficient evidence," Bloom will avoid a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge for the Oct. 12 incident.

According to the D.A.'s charge evaluation worksheet, Bloom was being shadowed by four paparazzo-filled cars and one car full of fans in the early morning hours. The report indicates that two of the camera-wielding pursuers attempted to cut off the black 2003 Toyota Matrix being driven by Bloom, causing him to swerve into a Porsche Cayenne parked on the side of the street.

As documented by paparazzi footage and noted in the D.A. report, Bloom walked approximately 60 feet away from the cars. However, the D.A. says Bloom wasn't attempting to flee the scene but rather sought "to avoid paparazzi's continued pursuit."

Bloom returned to the crash site within moments.

Video of the event seems to show him doing so only after a cameraman cautioned Bloom that he could be rung up on hit-and-run charges. Prosecutors were apparently uninterested in his motive for returning to the scene, only that he did.

The D.A.'s report also states that Bloom was not driving under the influence, despite him being seen leaving a bar with his two female passengers just minutes before the accident.

Instead, the report characterized him as "dazed."

The 30-year-old suffered no injuries in the incident. One of his female passengers suffered a fractured neck, but the injury was not serious; the other sustained cuts from her seat belt.

While Bloom is now in the clear, the offending shutterbugs may not be as lucky.

An investigation into the paparazzi's potentially dangerous driving tactics remains open.

Just to add that I DO NOT want to see the 'Charge Evaluation Sheet' posted here or any links to it.

Thanks.

It's an official document, goodness know how it got 'out there', but it's not coming in here.

Yoha - October 26, 2007 11:59 PM (GMT)
Thank Goodness!! This has been in my thoughts since I found out they were looking at the accident. I am so happy for him that this is over. :towel:

When it comes to Orlando, I would never post anything if it weren't true. It has hit the major newspapers and shows here in the States as Mayfrayn posted.

Jesse, I totally agree with this. It's over. It's behind him. Time for him to move on - to England.

Rosie/Jesse, I've been worried to bits about him. I have been feeling very frustrated with this whole story and wondering what did he do to deserve such treatment? He has always been polite and cordial to the press when others wouldn't have given them the time of day. I sincerely hopes he has learned a valuable lesson here, makes some adjustments (like having 6'3 bodyguards around him) and goes home to England to be with Sidi, unwind and relax.

Where is that long holiday he spoke of? Time to go chill somewhere.

I'm glad to see that the LA District Atty's office didn't file charges. :yahoo: I felt certain that the truth would prevail and it did. I don't think celebrities are safe from issues with people in general anywhere. They are public figures and are sadly therefore targets. He was in London, when some drunks threw bottles at him and into the crowd, ruining his closing night celebrations with his fans. Luckily no one was hurt. Their lives are not their own where ever they are.

manahime69 - October 27, 2007 05:06 AM (GMT)
yes yes yes yes yes yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so verry coooooooooooooooooollllllllllll !!!
I was so worried that they would do a witch hunt and try and charge him because he's a celebrity. so nice to know that the truth won out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I join all three of you in my feelings. Maybe now I can get a good night's sleep. :sleepy:

Orlando, I always knew you were totally innocent of these ridiculous charges.  Anyone who really knows you knows what a totally honest and upright person you are, and one who could never do what you were so wrongly accused of doing.  Frankly the papparazzi are the ones who should be charged.

I agree. I made these same statements in other places. But it made no sence agruing with non true fans. That's why I like it right here. I'm really happy this ordeal is over for him.

I was wondering that myself. How do they get hold of some of these things? There are entire websites dedicated to the legal documents of various incidents, not just celebrities. I know that if a legal document that regarded me got out somehow I would be really mad about it.

I knew Orlando wouldn't be charged. Any fool could tell that there was nothing to charge him over. It was, however, something of a delight to see that the paps are still being investigated for their involvement. Hopefully, this time, they will have to actually pay for the consequences of their actions.

Team Orlando all the way!

Kyle,

No offense taken. Yes, should have posted the full link citing the whole caption, but to tell you guys the truth, since I"ve been back from the UK, it's been hell.

I lost a good friend in a fatal car accident oddly the same day as Orlando's crash, and with the fire's in CA, a friend lost her home and all that's in it. So, when this news came out, I felt Thank God, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and it's shining on him.

I don't know if anyone seen this, but on one of the TV shows (I think it was Insider), they announced he was cleared (as if he was some suspect - made me so  ), and then they showed his car. Seems they were following him again, what can one say, the brainless do that sort of thing, but he pulled into a police station and told them. When he left, a police car was following him keeping the paps away from him.

I know this incident is over, but I'm afraid again for him. The paps will be hounding him now asking him for his comment on this latest development, and since he named them, I fear they will try to do something to trip him up. TMZ can be very revengeful.

On showing the legal documents, they are considered almost public domain here, and if TMZ paid to get a copy of the document (not a large fee at all), they can post it. I personally think that is an invasion of someone's privacy, but other actors who have been in accidents, I.e., Mel Gibson, Nick Nolte, have not only had the same document aired on Internet, the picture that is usually taken when someone is arrested and booked was also shown. I think it is deplorable, and I have no doubt in my mind if the police arrested Orlando, TMZ would have gotten hold of one of those pictures and police documents.

All of this, and the sheer fact that he can still roam the streets in London and not be bothered, not to mention his family and friends makes me keep sending him thoughts of Orlando go home. Please go home.

In the meantime, I'm going to do this  today for him, and for all here who supported this good man.

Unforunatlly London also has some issues with the paps. I am so not saying that what the USA paps did was in anyway a good thing. Infact I also think that they should be hung out to dry.
I am sorry for your loss libra, I know that things of that nature are very hard to cope with.

LondonLioness,

You are being far too kind. I would like to see them captured, prosecuted and hung up by their boots. Someone whom I work with idiotically said that they were only doing their jobs. People who aren't interested, and imagine this, one didn't know who Orlando was, all said that was taking it a bit far - what if he had been killed?

What I don't like is I have now seen some newspapers say the police booked him the night of the accident. Such garbage about him lately. Instead of recognizing that he is one of the finest young actors around who displays a courteous manner to his fans, and even to the paps at times (I pray no more), they hound him.

Rosie, make him a big cake for this was a big win.

Guys, thanks too for your kind thoughts and words. It means alot. :friends:
