I just received this amazing book today and well it's definitely worth to open a thread for it!
This book brought tears to my eyes! The pics by Sebastian Copeland are so beautiful and so meaningful!!

There's also a DVD included with 5 short reportages / slide-shows, inclusive a music vid where you can see Orlando as well!

I made some screencaps for you.....

It's already released??
I'll buy on Amazon, thanks for the news!

Jesse - September 18, 2007 08:19 PM (GMT)
Thank you so much for the screencaps Shana. This book looks incredible. The Gallery on the Official Website just takes your breath away. Those wonderful photographs that are accompanied by the incredibly haunting music really brings a lump to your throat.

Let the gallery play through whilst you sit in a dark room. The effect is spectacular.

I'm definitely going to get this book when my bank balance allows.

mayfrayn - September 18, 2007 08:21 PM (GMT)
I'm sorry, but on Amazon the book is available only for pre order....where have you get it???

LoisKent - September 18, 2007 08:31 PM (GMT)

Wow Shana! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
I agree with Jesse that the pictures literally take your breath away...They just kind of leave you in awe of it all.
The book looks as though it would be worth every penny.

I wonder if you get the DVD also, from Amazon?

Priestess - September 19, 2007 01:22 PM (GMT)
I have quite a fascination with these sorts of books. They contain stunning images along with vital information.

For the Aussies on here, you can make a back order for the book through Angus and Robertson aka Bookworld. It costs $93.95. It's not yet published though apparently, so they are just taking orders and will ship when available.

mejia - September 19, 2007 02:16 PM (GMT)
It's such a stunning book and as already said, it totally is worth every cent but even more all the attention it is getting.
Can't wait for the exhibitions! :D

I was wondering about that as well, Katt. Amazon does not mention the DVD in the description of the book.

mejia - September 21, 2007 11:30 AM (GMT)
Thanx for the photos Shana!

If you have the time, please check this checkTHIS video of Sebastian talking about the enviroment + Antarctica.

QUOTE
Antarctica's environment today is a microcosm of the world environment's future: as endangered creatures, such as the chinstrap penguins, humpback whales, and albatrosses, continue to face extinction, research scientists have concluded that this icy ecosystem serves as a final warning of impending environmental deterioration.

In Antarctica: The Global Warning, Sebastian Copeland's photographs have captured both the incredible beauty of the continent and the devastation that climate changes have wreaked on it. His data, photographs, and conclusions — along with contributions from Will Steger, David De Rothschild, Stephen Schneider, Zac Goldsmith, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Leonardo DiCaprio — bring to readers with insight and urgency the momentous reality of the not so distant future with insight and urgency.

This event took place September 14, 2007 at Google Headquarters in Mountain View, CA.

Great pics! I can't wait to get the book. I love this type of stuff :D

Jesse - September 21, 2007 07:19 PM (GMT)
I finally got around to listening to all of this, I have to say it's absolutely fascinating.

Sebastian mentioned shopping bags. That is one things that I have changed in my daily life over the last year or so...I always carry bags in my car for the grocery shopping. I can sometimes walk into Tesco armed with 5 or 6 of their reusable 'Green bags'!

Light bulbs are another thing that we are slowly changing...if we can fit the correct fitting. I'm constantly shouting at my kids to turn off the TV, turn off the lights etc. It's very true what he says about a candle...you wouldn't burn a candle by day for light, yet you flick a switch without thinking about it.

I found it rather frightening that by 2050, if we continue as we are now, the Arctics will be gone...by Summer 2035 the disappearance of the summer ice-caps! It's our children and grandchildren that will have to deal with this issue in years to come, so we need to start helping them now.

I just knew one of the Brits would pick up on that!

I have a resolute and unyielding need to watch 'Wilde' :giggle:

Totally. I can't stand the thought that when I have kids, they might grow up in a completely different world to what we've known for the past x amount of years.

I've become rather fondly known in my office as "the recycling freak"!! we had a massive clear out day today and threw away TONNES of stuff. I went round everyones desk going through the rubbish bags and putting all the paper stuff that was in them into the green recycle bags instead. I think I filled about 15!!

It's funny how those two look alike in that photo... :flirt:

I hope, Orlando wasn't freezing too much...
Up to three weeks ago, I was "working in the field" and one of my friends was wearing exactly the same jacket as Orlando does in that picture...
After 9 hours in the rain, we knew "waterproofed" ment in this case, that once water is in tha jacket, it doesn't come out... :lmao:
Poor guy...
