Thanks to Orlando News for the heads up on this one

At CinemaBlend.com they are saying Pirates 4 is now possibly more than a pipe dream but would be Jack Sparrow only - NO WILL or Elizabeth

Scoop: Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 Details

Some franchises just dont know when to quit. Whether or not people are getting sick and tired of the whole Pirates of the Caribbean thing, when a franchise makes that much money, its hard to let it die. Weve been hearing rumblings about a possible fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie for months now, but tonight I got an email from the old friend of the site which not only confirmed a fourth movie will almost certainly be happening, but dropped details on where the series may end up going when it continues.

Our source says that Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is no longer just a possibility, its almost a certainty. More importantly, Johnny Depp is all but assured to return, though our scooper claims he may end up making as much as $35 - $40 million to do it. Also returning will be Geoffrey Rush and Gore Verbinski as director, but forget about the rest of the cast because from now on the movies will only be about Captain Jack.

Thats right, Pirates 4 will cast aside Will and Elizabeth to make it an all Jack Sparrow movie. That wont be the only change Disney is planning to make when the series continues though. Our scooper says, the ending of Pirates 3, the fountain of youth story might not be the only story they might used the next pirates film. The fountain story could used in another form to introduce the story for Pirates 4 the next film might be a departure from the same formula of the last three movies as well, meaning that Jerry Bruckheimer could be planning to enter the realm of Science Fiction this time around and it could be the heart of a new trilogy with Jack Sparrow and his crew of misfits. Some of the brainstorming going around involves some Jules Verne type of scenarios involving some pretty big flying machines, a man who wants to rule more than just the ocean, a encounter with the most famous and dangerous pirate of all, a race to get to a lost world (Hint, Hint) and Jack and his crew going to where no pirate has gone before (No, its not space but Disney had made animated movie about this place before with Michel J Fox voicing one of the characters).

Pirates science fiction? What the heck? The Michael J. Fox movie our source is referring to is almost certainly Atlantis, which would tie in the Jules Verne and science fiction elements mentioned. Apparently well also get more of Jacks past and his family, which could also mean more Keith Richards. Id actually be ok with that, Keith was surprisingly good.

Dont get too attached to the idea of another Pirates of the Caribbean sequel though. Our insider thinks that Disney plans to take a long, long breather between Pirates movies: word is that the start date could be around 2009 to 2011. I dont think we need another Pirates sequel, but if theyre going to do one, giving the franchise time to recharge is probably a very good idea.

As always, consider everything above as nothing but rumor till something more develops. Our source is a proven one, but if we cant give you our source, then consider anything we tell you as unconfirmed gossip.

Much as I love Captain Jack the thought of no more Will...it doesn't bear thinking about! :will: I can see where they are coming from ...we will just have to wait and see - and as they say take this as unconfirmed gossip.

:pirates:

I just dont think the movies will be the same without the original cast.

Yes, the last 3 were a trilogy that supposedly tied up loose ends...however, I think it still leaves questions in alot of our minds!
This curse deal comes to mind!... ;)

There's no limit to the imagination...I think, if Ted & Terry are allowed to write any future Pirate movies, they'd be more than capable of creating a story including all our original cast of charaters!!!

If it's not broke...dont fix it!! ;)

Jesse - June 22, 2007 08:08 AM (GMT)
I agree with you all that it won't be the same without Will and Lizzie. As much as I love Jack, I'm just not sure it would work, I think without the balance there between the straight guy and the wobbly-legged rum soaked pirate, it could be too much of a good thing.

Please be a rumor

I agree that without Will and Elizabeth to play the "straight" to Captain Jack it just may not work. But whoever said that Will and Elizabeth are happily-ever-after I definitely don't agree. Could you put up with seeing Will only every 10 years. Gee, if Elizabeth lives to 60 years old she only gets to be with him 5 times. No, please bring them back so that they can be together AND keep Jack out of TROUBLE!

Secrets_of_the_Night - September 5, 2007 12:10 AM (GMT)
If they don't put Orlando in this movie. There is NO WAY I'm going to go see it. It just won't be the same with out him. :P

Drink Up Me Hearties" Another 'Pirates' for Disney
Pop Tart
Summer Rogers
Issue date: 2/13/08 Section: Opinion

Avast, Pirate fans! Just when we thought the Pirates movies couldn't get any longer, more complex and never-ending, there is a rumor that Disney has green-lighted the fourth installment of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise.

Just when we thought it was safe to go back into the theater, Disney decides to add another film to the money-making franchise and all I can say is, "arrgg."

With evidence from the last film, "At World's End," (and different Web sites confirm), the characters Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) will not be returning in the fourth film. Good thing too, I'm tired of all that lovely-dovey rubbish and their boring characters. Although, at the end of "World's End," Bloom's Turner looked like a sexy and prospectively exciting pirate character. Shucks.

I suppose Bloom and Knightley have finally grown tired of the films, or they have wised up and know when to quit.

The fourth installment, rumored to be called "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Fountain of Youth," will focus mainly on our favorite swash-buckling, plundering pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow.

I'm actually shocked and somewhat appalled that Johnny Depp would actually sign-on to do a fourth film. However, Depp has said that Sparrow is one of his favorite characters to play and it will be hard to give Sparrow up.

All I have to say to that is: J.D. unfortunately, we all have to do things we don't like, and letting Sparrow go for the sake of your career and the death of the Pirates movies is a sacrifice you should be willing to make. It will do a world of good to both Hollywood and the world.

It is also said that Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) will join Sparrow in the hunt for the Fountain of Youth.

I love how Depp and Rush interact and play off of each other, so the talent that is left, isn't so bad, but what about the director?

Gore Verbinski (who has directed the first three films) has said he has no interest in filming another Pirates without a finished script.

"The process of having release dates and no script is not something I'm dying to go through again. I would have to pull the gun out of my mouth [first]," Verbinski has said, according to MTV's Multiplayer Blog.

So if we, the movie-going public, want the fourth movie to be at least somewhat good, we better cross our fingers in hopes that the script is finished for the sake of keeping Verbinski. If another director has to step up, how bad is the fourth movie going to be?

This has happened before in a film franchise, the Batman series being my prime example. When Tim Burton directed the first two films, "Batman," and "Batman Returns," they were fantastic. However, Joel Schumacher took over directing duties on the third film, "Batman Forever," which went down hill. I believe the fourth Pirates will follow this pattern if a new director takes over.

I'm not going to lie, even with all the cynical and negative things I've just said, I'm going to see the fourth movie.

After all, who could resist the allure of a fourth Pirates film, especially when all the focus has completely shifted to the best character, Captain Jack Sparrow.

>>No offense to Johnny Depp, who in my opinion can play almost any character, but I would not find a fourth Pirates film attractive without Orlando and Keira in it. After AWE, both of them proved and showed how they have grown in their acting ability, one only needs to point to Orlando's stage debut during the summer of 2007 to see that. But for me, no Orlando and Keira, I've no desire to see a Pirates 4.<< :will:

Wicksey - February 15, 2008 07:30 AM (GMT)
I am so tired of this rumor, I can not tell you. I wish they would either confirm this thing or let it die. After seeing the very last scene in AWE I had thought maybe it was leaving a door open for more from Will and Elizabeth. Unfortunately, it is now looking as if it was just the final door closing. Even though, as an aspiring writer myself, I have a few storylines in my head that could center around Will and Elizabeth and their child.

Besides, though Will is only allowed to set foot on land only once every ten years, I do not believe he is cursed. It was his destiny according to Tia Dalma and I can see where it was him who was needed to take over as Captain. Anyway, the ten year thing doesn't mean he can't come back from under the sea. It only means whatever happens for him has to take place on the ocean.

As for Orlando and Kiera, if they are not interested in doing yet another Pirates movie, their careers are going to move forward with or without. I look forward to new roles from both. They are good talented actors who are going to continue to grow. In my opinion they were pretty good to begin with.

I've gone off on a tangent. I apologize. In short, I don't care to see another Pirates movie unless they can find a way to include all characters left alive at the end of the last movie. Just Jack is just too much Jack for me.

libra - February 15, 2008 01:51 PM (GMT)
After Pirates One, it was inevitable they had to do another. The film was more popular than thay anticipated, but after the second, you just knew too that they had to do a third, and most likely the thought to end it there was in their minds. I had hoped they would. I've seen too many films go to the third, fourth and fifth, and after awhile, they lose the plot and integrity of the other films. These were too good for that to happen.

But, I get a little annoyed when I read that they don't need Keira or Orlando in a fourth film because without them, the story that they were saying wouldn't have been properly conveyed.

I love Depp to bits, and think he is an excellent actor. After seeing him in Sweeney Todd, I'm convinced the man can do anything, but if it is all him, and no Orlando or Keira, I wouldn't go. It would be too much Jack as you rightly said, and for me, I'd be wondering when Orlando or Keira would be coming in.

For my part, I think that they made the right decision by stating they would not do a fourth film, but to me, the one person who grew tremendously in the films was Orlando. Even Johnny Depp said his role was the toughest, and when you look at the story line from the first to third film, Orlando's character is the one who is the real hero. I'm sure though that can be debated till the cows come home! :D

Witchie-poo - February 16, 2008 01:57 AM (GMT)
I agree with Libra, that Orlando's Will Turner is the hero in all the movies and that he actually grows the most from Pirates' 1 to Pirates's 3. He is also the character that Jack Sparrow needs to play off of the most as he is not an over the top character like Barbosa is.

I too enjoy Johnny Depp in everything he does. And I loved his Jack Sparrow character from the first time I saw him on screen. But as I watched the movie over and over again I just had to say my heart went to Will Turner. There is just something about Orlando's performance that just made me want to know this character.

It kills me that Orlando wasn't asked to be part of Pirate's 4. Keira, too. I won't say that I will not go to see it. But I bet you we won't have to wait until the cows come home to debate whether Will Turner is the true hero,
We just have to watch Pirate's 4.

Wicksey - February 16, 2008 04:11 AM (GMT)
I agree with you libra. You'll not have a debate from. I always thought Will's character was the hero too. In fact, on the commentary for DMC Ted and Terry said Will's character was always meant to be the hero.

It is hard for me to believe that these silly rumor people really believe no one went to see the Pirates movies for Will and/or Will and Elizabeth. They certainly weren't in the same audiences I was in; all the many, many times I went to see the movies. Silly rumor people. (head shaking in disbelief)

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 in 2011

Tagged in Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom and Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Walt Disney have been planning to release the fourth installment of its most successful trilogy ePirates of the Caribbean 4 in 2011.Though many reports are conflicting on how the studio get on the fourth film, many favors that the fourth film will focus solely on the renowned Captain Jack Sparrow.

Further, it was said that as the studio is trying to downsize the filmfs budget, the fourth installment would probably have a lighter take on the special effects.

The first three ePiratesf films which features Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley have been extremely successful as it gained millions of dollars each.

The first film ePirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearlf has grossed $305.4 million domestically and $654.3 million worldwide.

Further, ePirates of the Caribbean: Dead Manfs Chestf got better reception by earning $423.3 in North America only and over one billion dollars around the world, while the third ePirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds Endf reached $961 million in its worldwide sales.

Pirates AWE reached almost a billion - that's alot of million! :lmao:

But, without Orlando and Keira on board, it won't be the same.

Drink up me hearties, yo ho, yo ho. :friends:

I'm with you willturnersgirl. No Orlando, no go see for me. Hey poetry at this time of the morning.

willturnersgirl - March 14, 2008 04:24 PM (GMT)
thanks Elf Chick, I mean he was started - when he was younger and then he ended the third film I mean he is basically the main character not jack.

Elf Chick - March 19, 2008 07:50 AM (GMT)
Yeah that's right willturnersgirl. I think he was the main character too. Like I say, if Orlando's not in Pirates 4 I wont bother going to see it. Without him it's just another pirate film. Not a genre I really like.

Jesse - March 19, 2008 11:04 AM (GMT)
Well, I think we've just about talked this one to death!

There are a lot of Johnny and Geoffrey fans here, including myself who will still go and see a P4 and will look forward to the movie. Granted, it won't be the same without Orlando and Keira.

I'm going to close this topic, seeing as Orlando most probably won't be in Pirates4 if it ever does happen.

If there be a change in the wind I'll reopen it for ye all! :flirt:
