Title: Member Reviews Of AWE

RosieB - May 24, 2007 08:55 PM (GMT)
I just got home from seeing At World's End. - WOW! It totally blew me away! And I am not ashamed to say I cried (even sobbed) at certain places towards the end. I will not spoil the end for you though, but you MUST stay until the end of the credits!
DO NOT MISS THE FINAL SCENE

I wasn't expecting the very start of the movie - that was a real surprise and very dark - such an awful way to ....but Becket is behind it of course. The special effects are incredible and I was obviously watching a totally different film from all those reviewers because I had no trouble whatsoever following all the storylines. If you have watched the first two films you should have no problem following the third - I felt completely immersed in the story - there is a lot of humour - 'Jack' the monkey is a real star! Jack is ...well Jack only more so

Will is more GORGEOUS than ever :thud: :thud: :thud: :thud: Elizabeth is very feisty and all the crew were brilliant as usual. I loved that the two soldiers from the first movie were back - it was great to see them again. Keith Richards doesn't have a lot of screen time but makes the most of every second - I love the part where Jack asks 'How's Mum?' and Captain Teague holds up a shrunken head  (oops, sorry shouldn't have said that!)

The battle scenes are amazing, particularly in the maelstrom. There is a huge amount of cross, double cross and even triple cross going on which is probably what those reviewers found confusing  they don't know the characters like we do. There were also a lot of 'Oh of course!' moments as things began to be tied up and resolved.

I could say so much more but I really don't want to spoil this movie for you all - Just go and see it as soon as possible. Enjoy! I am looking forward to seeing AWE again on Saturday.

And let's get this movie Straight to the Top!

Hey everybody.

I've watched PotC - At Worlds End today and I don't really know what to say about it. In my opinion Dead Man's Chest is better.

MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET:

Well, some scenes were very weird especially the one with the giant Calypso (Tia Dalma).... I don't like the end of the movie that Will turns to the new Captain of the Flying Dutchman and some scenes were very sloppy (? right word?) ...very Hollywood-like you know?
The very end of the movie is very open, it looks like there's coming Pirates 4 and maybe more.
And it sucks that James Norrington died!!!!
I can't remember more stuff I didn't like or did. But all in all it was quite good because the other scenes were very cool :D
Can't wait for your comments, ladies

OMG! Rosie!!

Thanks for the review!!!

I have only 2 more hours left until I'm off to the movies!!!

And I am going to watch it again tommorrow night lol!!!

I've never been this excited!!!! :bigwink:

dpirates03 - May 25, 2007 06:22 AM (GMT)
thanks so much for the review!! You're making me even more excited for tomorrow when I see it!

Christy - May 25, 2007 02:16 PM (GMT)
I watched the movie yesterday!!! :ex:

SPOILER!
It was :lmao: ((the whole multiple jack's thing)) and of course pintel and ragetti :lmao:

I wasn't able to understand some parts.... even though I've lost count on how many times I've watched COTBP and DMC ((I guess it was because I was TOO excited and I kept drooling over Will lol))

I'm going to watch it tonight again.... so I will probably understand it better :pirates:

Overall, the movie was hilarious, I loved the ending, and I also got teary-eyed 3 times!

:yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

I've finally seen it!

Oakie Dokie, I have mixed reactions here to the very first showing.

The very start of the film...the hush in the cinema was incredible. I'd warned my daughter out about that, so she knew what to expect, but I could see a few of the younger kiddies were looking a little worried, especially when the cabin boy stepped up.

Personally, I thought the story line was a little messy and difficult to follow. A number of times I wanted to hit the rewind button. I think it was probably more to do with the fact that my 9 year old was bombarding me with questions the whole time!!

Now, as many of you know, I love Johnny, but....too many Jacks. :headhurts: I get it, I know what they were trying to do, but many don't and find that whole scene confusing. Mulitple Jacks worked in the Locker but the other times I felt it was milking it too much.

I was severely disappointed at the editing over Jack's heroic moment. Jack was sacrificing his intention to stab the heart and roam the sea forever in favour of Will getting that 'honor'. You barely saw that moment, I was really looking forward to it.

I also thought there was not enough of Jack just being Jack. The witty Jack from 1 and 2 and the playful bantering with Will. I think this film got over complicated with myth and legend. The first was simple, playful pirating. I think that was what was missing from this one. We saw a little of what I'm talking about at the end, with Scarlett and Giselle.

Soundtrack and special effects stunning! I've got the soundtrack and play it over and over, it's incredible and perfection in every scene. The maelstrom and worlds end effects...excellant!

Jack with the crabs and stones! Oh and the 'Nobody move...I've dropped me brain!!" :lmao:

Where do I begin with Will and Lizzie on the beach?? :thud: That scene was perfection. I don't think I blinked! :twitch: And when Will was dying...I was gulping hard. Even though I knew it was coming I was saying "No...please no!"

I was happy with the ending although it didn't finish quite as I had it played out. I wanted to see Jack stood on top of the yardarm sailing off into the sunset...leaving the film in the same way he entered it back in POTC1.
But, I was pleased that it ended with simplicity...Jack being good ole' Jack.

What about that final after-credit Easter Egg??? WOW! What a tear-jerker...another moment where I was fighting back emotion.

QUOTE (Katie)
I don't like the end of the movie that Will turns to the new Captain of the Flying Dutchman

I knew about that...or more I guessed after seeing the toys that came out. I had that little bit worked out perfectly, but it was sad. The bitter-sweet ending that Ted and Terry mentioned.

Did you all notice that when Will was stabbed it was with the sword that he made for Norrington in the first film? It was that sword that was used to cut out his heart. What a twist to the tale.

I'm definitely going again...and soon.

Does anyone have any unanswered questions they want to discuss? I know I do....

Q: What insult did Jack pay Sao Feng?

Q: What mark did Jack leave on Beckett?

Q: What was the significance of the model in the canon?

Q: Has anyone worked out how the 'up is down' worked?

Q: How did the dog escape from Cannibal Island?

Q: Who has the key to Will Turners Chest??? Nods to my title!!!

Christy - May 26, 2007 08:01 PM (GMT)
Q: What was the significance of the model in the canon?
Maybe it was foreshadowing what was going to happen to Beckett at the end of the movie??

I've seen it twice already, I want to watch it again!!!!
I have to admit, I liked it better the second time I saw it :yahoo:

And Will's appearance...... let's not even go there ((Lol))

Phynx - May 26, 2007 08:34 PM (GMT)
Wendy I didn't see that easter egg at the end of the credits and I'm dying of curiosity! Could you please PM me and describe it to me please?

Ahhhh! There's a point. I never thought of that one.

Another question (full of them aren't I??)...We never did find out what Jack stole from Tia Dalma and slipped into his pocket. Any ideas??
Darn...I was really curious about that!

Christy - May 26, 2007 10:18 PM (GMT)
I forgot to mention the part when Will was drinking tea, and he went to the globe and the black magnifying thing poked him in the face   it was hilarious

Gonedeaf - May 27, 2007 12:26 PM (GMT)
How about -

Q. What are they going to do for the DVD cover seeing as how they didn't come up with a proper poster of sorts for the movie. :)

Silly question, I know, but I am curious.

As for the model in the cannon, I always just thought it was just Jack having a little dig at his contempt for Beckett, just a visual gag, and in reflection I agree it also works well as a foreshadowing of Beckett's fate.

With the dog escaping, well the question is asked, and I think it is Teague who says 'sea turtles', referring to the running gag in the first and second of how someone (and now something) can make a miraculous escape. However, both times this has been used it hasn't of course been the real reason (jack hitched a ride and Will just swimmed to shore I think) so exactly how the old doggie escaped will probably remain a mystery.

And Will drinking tea... :lmao: one of my favourite parts of the movie! When Jones slaps it out his hand and he just says 'I hadn't finished that' - priceless!

As a side-note in this ramble which is going all over the place, was anybody else disappointed with Sao Feng's inclusion? Not the performance, I think Chow Yun Fat did a brilliant job, it's just I felt his limited inclusion to the plot seemed at times almost injected as an obligatory 'new character'.

I think they will stick with the same 'characters walking out of the smoke' theme that is on the CD cover. All of those posters and images have been used in the advertising. If I had to make a choice, I think it will be this one...

Yes, CJS told me about that. I really didn't catch a lot of that scene because my daughter didn't shut up asking me questions abut Jack's dad! I was at the point of gagging her!

That did make me laugh. The thought I had was that maybe it was a nod to 'In Celebration'. Johnny managed to get his nod in for 'Sweeney Todd'.

 Ahhh yes! Another funny little moment.

Lissa - May 27, 2007 08:27 PM (GMT)
I have no answers to any of the questions posed.

I had a grand time at this movie! I loved the maelstrom scene! I play an online role playing pirate game and during sea battles the board is littered with whirlpools, and the maelstrom reminded me of that.

Will as the Captain of the Flying Dutchman was awesome. Bittersweet, yes. But he looked damned hawt in that bandanna and gold hoop!

I found the scene of Will and Elizabeth on the beach very sensuous. When he touched her leg...Oh lord! I'm inclined to believe that it wasn't actually Kiera's leg though. I don't believe her legs are that shapely.

I'll probably try to get to the theater at least once more before AWE's run is done.
I'm sure there are tons of little nuances I missed. :pirates:

Ka-Bloom - May 28, 2007 11:49 PM (GMT)
hi everyone! I absolutely LOVEd this movie, it had a lot of hype from the second one and I think they did an AWEsome job at it. The story line was a little hard to follow just because mabe I was so interested in will :). the one thing I didn't like was the whole Calypso thing where she's big....and then she's gone...hmmm.. But I loved the "multiple jacks" that gave me a great laugh! "my peanut!". oh and the ending! I loved that too, I think it was good that they didn't do a "happily ever after" ending having will on the Dutchman. and the final scene was so great! overall I think it was an AWEsome movie! I think I am going to see it again soon :)

O and I think I knew some of the questions :)
Q: Has anyone worked out how the 'up is down' worked?

well, on the map I guess Jack figured out that up is really down. LIke they are trapped between two worlds I gues (noticeing the boats and Liz's father) and so to get back instead of sailing forward they I guess needed to flip the boat and go in the completely different direction to be back in the "real world" I assume, thats what I got.

Q: How did the dog escape from Cannibal Island?

again I believe they refer to the seaturtles once more just like Jack and Will did

Q: Who has the key to Will Turners Chest???

oo good question....I don't know...himslef? elizabeth? ugg another unanswered question! :)

I think that scene floored a lot of people. I can't wait to get the DVD to screencap that bit!! :faint:

Here's a thought as well. Right at the very end Jack is looking at the map and a reference is made to The Fountain Of Youth. Now...do you think that in those 10 years that passed Jack found said Fountain of Youth, returned and sought out Lizzie, gave her a drink from it so that she could be with 'dear William' for all eternity???? In that final after-credit scene although Will had appeared to have aged, Lizzie hadn't! Which...also sets up our immortal Pirates very nicely for P4!!!! :D

Or if Keira and Orlando don't want to continue, then Johnny is all set to make a Captain Jack film about the finding of the Fountain of Youth.

QUOTE (KaBloom)

Hi KaBloom.

I found it hard to follow, which is why I am going back today. There was so much to focus on...the new characters, Jack, Will, the bantering, the background action etc etc that is distracted a lot from the storyline.

QUOTE

Well, I spent ages working on it and I figured like you, they needed to play the whole thing out in reverse.

Here's something else, how many scenes have you spotted from trailers and clips that weren't in the final cut??

1) Jack and Barbossa wrestling with the ships wheel.

2) Jack saying "Should he be doing that?"

Found any more?

Christy - May 29, 2007 07:02 PM (GMT)
When Jack says "Did anybody come save just because they missed me" ((I know he said that)) .... but they didn't show that funny facial expression he does when Jack the monkey raises his hand.

Also,

When they are in shipwreck cove, and Liz tells Jack "Will you ever forgive me?" and he says "No"

Christy - May 31, 2007 11:24 PM (GMT)
I just returned from watching the movie for a 3rd time!!!! :P :P

You're right there Christy, I can't remeber those either. I've also got another one. When Jack is in the locker and he points his gun at the stone/crab...

You're one ahead of me. ;)

How many of you have worked out that Will's curse to be bound to the Flying Dutchman for all eternity is broken?? He's now free to be with Lizzie and young William.

Jesse - June 1, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)
QUOTE
I noticed the gun with the crab shot, but how are we supposed to know that the curse has been lifted?????

It's matter of putting two and two together. When Davy Jones is talking to Tia Dalma who is imprisoned below deck (at least I think that's the scene), he says that Calypso charged him with the task to ferry those that died at sea to the afterlife. But when Calypso wasn't there to meet him and he neglected his original duty he assumed the form of the monster instead of the man. We get a glimpse of Davy Jones the man.

Now I understood it that because Will had succeeeded in his duty those ten years and because Lizzie had been loyal to Will throughout the ten year absence and was also there to meet him, her loyalty somehow lessened or removed the curse. Will is not at all 'tentacally'...infact he's even more gorgeous! So, that made me think, was all or part of the curse removed??

I know for sure that I have read somewhere that there is a deleted scene that explains all this properly, but I can't remember where I read it. :bash:

QUOTE
I have seen the movie 4 times now and will make a 5th one sometime this weekend....does it count that I have purchased 18 tickets?? STTT!!!!!!

:o :o :o

18!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We'll I've bought 4 in total! I'm running a little behind!

I have also figured out that Tia knew about the cursed Aztec gold and probably was one of the hethen Gods that put the curse on it.

Now that I do know, I'm sure I read on Wordplay that she was the most powerful of all the heathen gods that cursed the Aztec gold.

Ooohh here's one conversation about the exact topic we are discussing. Go here to Wordplay: http://www.wordplayer.com/forums/movies/in...cgi?read=100273 (read all the responses)

He has a heart...it's in the chest, with Lizzie looking after it.

QUOTE
But how does the heart keep beating when it's cut out???

Will has a high amount of midi-chlorians in his blood. (Oooppps! Sorry! Wrong movie!)

It's too late at night!!

I think I may watch 'The Crimson Pirate' thats simple...easy to remember!

Jesse - June 2, 2007 08:04 AM (GMT)
Lets try and answer some questions:

QUOTE
I am still wanting to know what mark Jack left on Beckett????? I know that Beckett left the Pirate mark on Jack and that he sank the Wicked Wench that then became the Black Pearl....but I want to know more.....

My guess is that it's a mark that can't be seen...humiliation. Jack worked for Beckett as Captain of The Wicked Wench (thanks for that info CJS) ferrying cargo, but the cargo turned out to be slaves, so Jack liberated the slaves causing major embarressment and humilition to Beckett. In his anger Beckett set fire to the Wench, sank it to the depths and branded Jack a Pirate - a visable mark, unlike the mark Jack left on Beckett.

QUOTE
I had thought that since Elizabeth looked as though she had not aged that Jack had in that 10 years found the fountain of youth and had brought some back to her so that she and Will would be able to be together for eternity...

That's it exactly. I know we've discussed this as well. It's interesting stuff isn't it!!

QUOTE
I thought that all stories lines and all questions were supposed to be tied up with this movie....it just brought about more for me.

I feel exactly the same way. :headhurts:

Ka-Bloom - June 3, 2007 12:10 AM (GMT)
Those are some good points about the Fountain of Youth! :) ANOTHER ONE! :) :) :) and yes can't wait for the DVD!

eclectic53185 - June 3, 2007 12:42 AM (GMT)

Based on what Ted said on the 'Wordplay' site, this would be correct.

http://www.wordplayer.com/forums/movies/index.cgi?read=99675

The site is down over the weekend, but-in essense, he says due to the fact the heart curse was established by Davy (SEPARATE from Calypso's 10 year/1 day ferrying of souls), it's a whole different deal. He doesnt think the heart can ever be restored, personally. As he is one of the writers, it's interesting that this is their take on the story! This ending is not what you would call, 'typical Disney'!!! ;)

Ted also stated in a different post on 'Wordplay' that there was a scene initially shot for the explaining of this. Jones saying it was a separate curse he placed on his heart when he cut it out of his chest that whoever stabbed it, theirs would take it's place.

I feel that same way. The end scene after the credits, Will's white shirt conveniently covers where the scar would be! :flirt: I think Will's heart stays in metal chest as well.
I'm ok with an 'immortal Will'! ;) :hot: He is pretty darn HOT as the Captain of the Flying Dutchman!!! I've seen the movie 13 times to date & plan on more!

:D

That's really interesting eclectic. So, should Will's heart get stabbed, who would take the place of the Captain then? I guess it would be Bootstrap - Will's heir...or Young William??

Oohhh the possibilities are endless with that line of thought.
