| This autumn, Getty Images Gallery presents a new and exclusive exhibition by renowned photographer, Andy Gotts, using celebrity portraits to illustrate the small world phenomenon known as the ‘Six Degrees of Separation’. The exhibition, entitled “Degrees” runs from 30 September to 29 October and is based upon the notion that only six degrees of separation, separate any two people from each other, a concept made popular by the cult website game, ‘The Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.’ The project was an eight-year labour of love for photographer, Andy Gotts as he travelled the world gaining extraordinary access to over 100 A-list actors and actresses. The result is an exhibition that demonstrates a true chain of Hollywood’s ‘who knows whom’, starting with Joss Ackland who recommended his friend Greta Scacchi and followed by each subject then suggesting a friend, or colleague they admired. Over sixty ‘separated’ black and white images will be on show at the exhibition, including a hysterical George Clooney in a pirate’s hat, a pensive Adrian Brody, a childlike Gwyneth Paltrow and a exuberant Heath Ledger clowning around in front of the lens. Gotts, comments: “I was amazed and delighted at how the project escalated in terms of celebrity involvement. It started off with me asking actors and actresses to suggest the next ‘degree of separation’ and culminated with celebrities such as Samuel L. Jackson, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Paul Newman, all keen to be involved.” Further highlights include Kevin Bacon almost emerging from his portrait, a series of images showing Orlando Bloom stripping down to his union jack boxer shorts and Morgan Freeman giving the camera a repertoire of his facial expressions. |
