This book is the most special one of my collection. Why? Because Orlando autographed it at the London KOH Premiere.

Below I've added some excerpts, although there is nothing in it that we haven't read before - except for the black 'OBx' on the front page! ;)
QUOTE
Orlando caught his own strain of the acting bug as he was first starting Primary school. "I always really loved performing as a kid," he confirms. "My first performance was a little embaressing because I was doing a play at the local theatre and it was quite a big deal because the whole of Canterbury was there, and I was a monkey. Dressed in a monkey suit. There were three of us. And this monkey suit was really hot, you know? It was like one of those sort of synthetic suits and I was only four and I'll never forget it. I think it's lived with me ever since. I've been really paranoid about making the same mistake, but I, Um, I itched my butt on stage but it was like, I had this sort of terrible itch and of course the audience went mad with laughter. But I was a monkey, so it was sort of what a monkey would do! But I was like 'What did I do?' because I'd sort of broken the routine out of what I was supposed to be doing, so I was like Uuhhh! So it was a sort of stage fright.
QUOTE
It was my first time and I kinda went at it at bit hard! :brow:
Snowboarding - he was talking about snowboarding!
QUOTE
"When I was trying to snog my first girlfriend, I didn't know what word to use, so I was going: 'Can I , er, can I, er kiss you? Er, can I get off with you?' I felt like such an idiot. And then when I did do it I didn't know what to do with my teeth. It was awful"
QUOTE
"I was given a call, or my agent rather, that the role of Faramir wouldn't become available to me, but would I like to read for the part of Legolas? I was over the moon to do that obviously, so I read for Legolas and was offered the role a few weeks after that. It was a six month process, but a mind blowing time for me really.
I went back and read the books and tried to find out who Legolas was. I was thrilled when they asked me to play him. I went on tape again, and after they'd checked out how tall I was and everything, I got the call to say I was in... I said 'absolutly'. I got an offer and I was freaking out and screaming and yelling... it was all too much. |
QUOTE
My first scene on my very first day was delivering a line of Elvish to a group of Elves, which wasn't the easiet thing to open with... I just remember thinking, God, man, those Elves look really strange.
QUOTE
The Elf ears weren't uncomfortable other than the two hours it took to put them on. I went home one day without the wig, but with the ears on because I had a four hour break and it was in the middle of the night. I crawled into bed with my girlfriend at the time and woke up with one of the ears stuck to the pillow and the other there in perfect form, with my ex-girlfriend taking photo's and laughing
QUOTE
"My character [Todd Blackburn - Black Hawk Down] falls out of a helicopter and breaks his back. After I had my fall, I was in hospital lying right next to a young soldier with a paralysing injury. It's surreal how life has these patterns."
QUOTE
I remember taking helicopter rides in those Black Hawks. Those machines are so powerful, and we did this zero-gravity thing where they drop the helicopter in mid-flight. You free-fall and for a few seconds you are floating. There are no doors on these things, your feet are dangling out of the side and you are weightless. It's the most freaky thing ever - close to walking on the moon, probably. Talk about exhilariting.

Jesse, I love the excerpts from this book of yours and I found them very intriguing as I got an insight about how Orlando coped with the roles he played and how one in particular was so close to life it was unreal. :) :D
I also love the fact he autographed it. I'll bet you haven't got over that, have you? :woot:

Hi Elizabeth,
Sorry for taking so long to reply, I was away on vacation when you asked this question and I've only just discovered it.
I do recommend this although the copy I have is now a couple of years old (it was published in September 2004) and only covers Orlando's career up to the Troy era. It's mainly written by pulling interviews from magazine articles and interviews, but it's well constructed with some nice pictures.
It may be an idea to keep looking at Amazon for any news of an updated version which would cover 'KOH' 'Elizabethtown' and 'DMC' . Usually with biographys I find that they are updated every couple of years, so this one may be due for a reprint very soon.
If I hear any news I'll let you know.

Sorry mayfrayn, but I can't allow you to do that. It's a copyright infringement to scan and republish an entire book. That's why I haven't done it...I've only typed out excerpts.
Please read and take note of the copyright notice on the page opposite the Contents Guide. :)

I bought the book when it first came out with the film. It is an excellent book in every aspect. One of the best I've seen on Pirates.
